History
Y Bwthyn was the home of the famous bard and preacher, Dewi Emrys.

Dewi Emrys was the pen-name of the poet David Emrys James (1881 – 1952) who was born in New Quay.
Above the front door of the cottage, a plaque commemorates the fact that the renowned Welsh preacher and poet Dewi Emrys once lived here.
There is also a commemorated memorial stone overlooking Pwll Deri on the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. His poem of the same name, written in the Welsh language with its distinctive Pembrokeshire dialect, evokes life in the summertime overlooking the steep coastal cliffs above Pwll Deri.
Dewi Emrys won the very coveted National Eisteddfod ‘Chair’ no less than four times for his work.
After all the travelling he did it was back to Talgarreg he came to spend his last years at Y Bwthyn with his daughter Dwynwen, and he has been buried in the local Independent Pisgah Chapel cemetery at Talgarreg.
Unfortunately, none of the chairs are at the cottage. He had written many books and proses and most of them have been written when he lived at Y Bwthyn.
