Located in beautiful West Wales, there’s plenty to do for all the family within the surrounding area
If you can drag yourself away from
Y Bwthyn, you must explore the surrounding area.
Only 6 miles away, is the pretty seaside town of New Quay with the famous Dolphin trips, and the beautiful scenery of the coastline. There’s also a selection of little shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants, and the Marine Wildlife Centre.
There are plenty of lovely sandy beaches to explore in the area, New Quay has no less than four, and many are dog friendly all year round if you are bringing your family dog on holiday with you.
Nearby, lovely Llangrannog, Tresaith, Penbryn ,Mwnt and Aberporth all have beautiful sandy beaches for all the family to enjoy! Many of the villages have cosy country pubs and restaurants overlooking the beach, you can also enjoy a lovely pizza on the beach at Llangrannog. So whatever the weather you can enjoy a meal and soak up the views.
If it’s culture that takes your fancy, visit the Welsh National Wool Museum at nearby Drefach Felindre, or the Ceredigion Museum at Aberystwyth where you’ll be taken back in time. Or there’s the historic church of the Holy cross at Mwnt for time to reflect.
The county town of Cardigan and the university town of Aberystwyth are definitely worth a visit, both with castles and the latter with a pier, promenade and the Vale of Rheidol Steam Train and the Cliff Railway. Make sure you visit the colourful Georgian harbour town of Aberaeron, with its lovely town walks, and inspect the new Aberaeron Sea Defence or sit by the harbour enjoying Fish and Chips and finish off with the famous Honey Ice Cream. Or indulge in one of the first class restaurants at Aberaeron.
West Wales is a haven for walkers, cyclists and those who enjoy any kind of outdoor pursuit. The coastal path from Aberaeron to New quay is breathtaking, where you can take a break on the cliff top to watch the Dolphin’s with their displays in the bay. There is the National Trust owned Llanerchaeron, where you can visit the historic mansion to take you back in time or walk or Cycle the Cycle path to Aberaeron.
For those who love outdoor pursuits you can visit the Brechfa forest cycle trail, or the internationally known Llandysul Paddlers Canoe Centre . If you are after serious mountain biking, you can take to the muddy tracks at Bwlch Nant-yr-Arian, near Aberystwyth.
For the little ones you can visit the Moody Calf Play Barn @ Moody Cow or visit Gabrielle’s gallery at Ffostrasol and paint yourself an egg cup or a mug to remind you of your time spent in West Wales. For the older kids / teenagers there is a Trampoline Park at the Crazy Cow @Moody Cow or take to the lake at the Canoe Centre in Llandysul or spend the day at the Urdd Camp at Llangrannog trying all the activities.
